Damp can have a disastrous effect on properties, particularly if left for a long period of time. If you leave the problem too long it could cost you a fortune to fix and you don’t want to have to seek out financial adviser services to have to pay for it! Due to Eastbourne being located on the coast, damp caused by condensation can be a common problem experienced by landlords in their rental properties. However, there are actually three types of damp problems that you may come across, including condensation and mould, penetrating damp and rising damp. All three of these types of damp need to be treated quickly and effectively in order to prevent any further damage being done to the property. If you’re renting a property and you come across damp, then it is important to report it to your landlord, so that they can determine whether the problem is for them to solve or for their tenants.

    Penetrating Damp

Penetrating damp is generally caused when water from outside enters your home and becomes trapped without the means to evaporate. This can leave a number of nasty stains on the walls, rusting and can also damage the interior of your property. Your landlord will be responsible for fixing penetrating damp caused by a series of problems such as a leaking roof, gutter or cracked wall, leaking pipes or rotten window frames.

Penetrating damp can be prevented by remaining vigilant, and regularly checking around your home. The only way to remove penetrating damp from a property is by eliminating the moisture at its source, but it is better for the pros to take a look. When you turn to a reliable and professional damp proof company, they will provide you with a survey in order to determine where the damp is coming from and assess how to best to treat it.

    Rising Damp

Rising damp is caused when moisture under the building is soaked into the bricks and concrete, and it is an extremely common problem in older buildings. In order to get rid of rising damp, your landlord may need to fix or install a damp proof course. Whether it comes to professional and reliable damp proofing in London or damp proofing in Eastbourne, there are huge range of methods and treatments that can be tailored to the property in order to remove the damp completely. Rising damp can cause problems like rotten plaster, floorboards, beams and more, so it is very important that a damp proof course is installed.

    Condensation

While the landlord may be mainly responsible for penetrating damp, condensation is often caused by the tenant’s activities within the property, and because of this it is generally the tenant’s responsibility. There are a number of reasons why a property may experience condensation and mould growth, including your property not getting enough ventilation, or the property not being adequately heated. Cleaning mould can be hard work, and unless you remove all of it, it is highly likely to grow back.

The very best way to prevent damp from settling in the first place is by purchasing an electric dehumidifier. Remember, mould spores can result in illnesses, particularly in children, pets and older people. This means it is important to have any clothes, toys or other possessions that have grown mould collected and cleaned.
